…continued from the last post.
So after a long series of flashbacks of the last 30 months, here we are.
Present day – 3/3/09
So here I was on my unexpected road trip to LA. Considering what had happened I was actually very chipper and almost amused at the whole situation. I was driving the car that had been with me throughout the whole experience from Vancouver to LA and back. As I passed Seattle and continued towards Oregon, the sun came out in time for me to enjoy the drive by sunset.
Then it occurred to me. If this situation would’ve happened a year or two ago I probably would’ve responded to it entirely differently. I’ve come to learn that life is all about overcoming and growing.
There was once a day when my problems were much bigger than me. There’s always going to be ‘problems’ and from my experience they don’t get any smaller. So the only way to deal with them is to become much bigger than our problems. Cause the other way around definitely doesn’t work.
I thought about what I’ve overcome in just the last 30 months and how the problems I had years before seemed so overwhelming at the time. Then I thought of all the wonderful things that have come out of the triumph. I guess it’s the natural law of polarity – the concept of yin/yang. I’ve experienced both sides and its what we focus on that gives us either a supportive or unsupportive perspective.
Just as I released my frustration about the car and border incident and accepted the fact that we don’t have a car now in Vancouver, Lisa called. Someone we know was leaving Vancouver and offered his car to us… for free! No car? – no problem!!
I chuckled to myself in amusement. Life is not without a sense of humor. Was I surprised? Yes …and no. I’m continually understanding more and more how the inner workings of life and how the laws of creation work – the natural laws of the universe.
The drive down to LA turned out to be a peaceful and symbolic trip. It gave me a chance to step back and look back at the last couple years, and appreciate the journey and life experience. The only other significant thought through my mind was how excited I was for the years to come.
Today Lisa and I enjoy the freedom to travel back and forth to the U.S. and Canada, and of course globally. We enjoy much more financial freedom and more importantly, our ideal lifestyle. We have freedom! In just about every aspect. Freedom to travel, freedom from a 9-5 job, freedom from obligation and “keeping up with the Jones’”, freedom to do whatever we want!
It wasn’t without a fight, but I can tell you it’s worth every struggle!
If Lisa hadn’t temporarily gotten kicked out of the States, I doubt my marriage would’ve lasted. It was a blessing in disguise. [And a really good disguise!] Ultimate Dragon Training.
People have often said how crazy I am and what a crazy life I have. It’s true – in a crazy-wonderful way. After all, how else can you live a rich and fulfilling life full of adventure and experience? That’s why Lisa and I have themed our marriage -ALWAYS AN ADVENTURE
